I changed the lamp a year ago and the dimmer function no longer worked. I just replaced the lamp again hoping it was the lamp (says they are dimmable) and it still doesn’t work. I read something that says it may be the part in the fan that controls dimming that is on the fritz…how can I determine which part? and can I fix it myself?

Good question. Can you post the make and model of your fan? Is it a harbor breeze?
When you say changed the lamp, are you talking about the bulb? Or the whole lamp assembly in the fan, please provide more details
